Welcome! Janusz Mayk Majewski was born in Warsaw, Poland where he finished his art studies at the Academy of Fine Art under supervision of professors J. Mroszczak and H. Tomaszewski. n 1967 he moved to Malmoe, Sweden to launch a career as a cartoonist. Since 1973 Mayk has been employed as political cartoonist and illustrator at Sydsvenska Dagbladet, the largest newspaper in the Southern Sweden. In addition to Sydsvenska Dagbladet, his work is frequently seen in other Swedish newspapers, such as Affars Varlden, SAF-Tidningen and Tempus. Outside of Sweden, Mayks political cartoons are published in Helsinki Sanomat, New York Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Glos Wielkopolski, Zycie Warszawy, Rzeczpospolita and Der Spiegel. One of Mayks greatest professional achievements was winning the 1981 International Cartoon Competition in Knokke-Heist, Belgium. Since then he has been a permanent member of the Senior Jury at the Knokke-Heist competitions. |
